Campus Operations teams have been working hard to prepare for students’ return by cleaning and refreshing facilities, completing construction and restoration projects, and beautifying outdoor spaces. From deep-cleaned classrooms and updated event processes to major building improvements and landscaping upgrades across campus, these efforts created a welcoming and unified environment for the new academic year.
The Custodial Services team completed various cleaning projects, including carpet and window cleaning, floor waxing, and deep restroom sanitation across campus. The Facility Services Support team implemented new event processes for the upcoming school year. Campus Support Services, including Event & Moving Services, Solid Waste & Recycling, and the UT Surplus Reuse Store, all worked diligently during the summer, Serving With Care at summer student events to enhance the campus experience.
Planning, Design and Construction completed numerous summer projects, including adding a commemorative entrance to the Painter Heman Sweatt Exterior Memorial and Building Entrance. They also continued progress on dozens of smaller projects and major ones, including the Main Building and Tower Restoration, Engineering Discovery Building, and Mulva Hall. The Construction Services shops helped with campus beautification efforts and supported Gone to Texas.
Grounds and Landscape has excelled in enhancing the University's appearance, creating a unified aesthetic. Recent improvements include adding new grass and mulch in various campus areas, marigolds to the South Mall flag courts, and new limestone blocks along the Main Mall that serve as informal seating and photo spots. Grounds and Landscape also replaced many boxwood shrubs with native yaupon holly shrubs.
Lastly, the Planning, Design and Construction and Grounds and Landscape teams collaborated to enhance the guard kiosk area at 24th Street. This project included adding a wooden bench, a new stone wall featuring the UT logo, and various landscape improvements. Campus Operations has worked together as One Great Team to Get It Done Right!
